Region Of Central Macedonia
The Region of Central Macedonia plays a central role in strengthening and internationalizing its innovation ecosystem by providing targeted funding, implementing EU-supported programs, and fostering a business-friendly environment that attracts new investment. Through its digital governance strategy and Smart Specialisation priorities, the Region actively supports startups, spin-offs, research initiatives, and technology-driven enterprises, facilitating their connection with international markets and platforms such as MWC.
At the heart of this ecosystem is Thessaloniki, home to three universities, including Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the largest in Greece, and to CERTH (Centre for Research and Technology Hellas), the country’s largest research center with more than 3,000 researchers. A strong network of incubators and accelerators, including Walk and the Alexander Innovation Zone, connects academia with entrepreneurship. Major infrastructures such as Technopolis ICT Park and ThessINTEC, a flagship technology park under development next to Macedonia International Airport, create ideal conditions for global technology companies, positioning Central Macedonia as a mature and outward-looking digital innovation hub.
